I realized that I never put a picture of our campervan on the blog! So before I finished writing about New Zealand, I thought it might be nice to write about it. I was talking with a friend about my trip this summer and how I set a budget for my time abroad. One way that I as really able to save money and still see a lot was because of this campervan. It served as my hotel, my car, my restuarant, and it was cheaper on gas then my own car at home.
Torey and I were able to split the cost of the rental and gas. In fact, because our campervan used desiel, it was cheaper than when I fill up my Xterra. I only paid about $30 for a full tank in the campervan and we usually just filled up once a day. And even if you decide to book in a campground for the night, it is cheaper then staying at a hostel. So I believe we got our money's worth by trekking around the country in this cute campervan.
As you can see, it was not very big (more like a glorified van). We would fold down the table each night to make a bed. And fortunately we could stand up inside. I thought the company, Pacific Horizon, was good to go with because they also provided a lot of essentials. We had pots, pans, tupperware dishes, platers, cutlery, blankets, towels, and even two pillows. So we felt very taken care of. I would use this company again in a heartbeat!

that is a great idea! i don't think i would have ever thought to use a campervan. i had always thought of just staying at hostels, but if this is cheaper than it is definately the way to go!
Jessica- It was cheaper in New Zealand. Keep in mind too that it could have been even cheaper had we not stayed at so many campgrounds (but it was cold and I wanted the electricity for the heater). It might not always be cheaper in every country, but it was a great way to travel there!
Wow! I should try traveling by campervan sometime. I'm sure it'll be great fun for the whole family.Waiting for your Singapore posts:-)
i wonder if it would be cheaper in europe...i am planning a trip there sometime in the near future...but i need to make it inexpensive. thanks for the advice!
Jessica- I don't think a campervan would be good for Europe. The thing about Europe, is that it is so compact. You can easily fly (easy jet and ryan air are great discount airlines) or take a train. I would think it would be cheaper to go that route, especially if you are going to cities.
New Zealand it filled with a bunch more open land, which made the campervan a nice option. This is just something to keep in mind!
this would give us a good idea, thanks for posting. red diesel
