Even though I was dying from the humidity, at least I knew there would be a beach with good water. Actually, Singapore is not known for their beaches, but they do have one place that all the locals visit: Sentosa Island. So Brit boy and I spent the whole day there.
Sentosa Island is really set up for people to take a day off, whether they are a tourist or a local. You have to pay about $3 Singapore dollars to get to the island if you take the bus and it is about $15 if you choose to take the cable car. We decided to take the cable car (round trip) to enjoy the scenery.
The island is set up with three major beaches and lots of tourists traps. There is an aquarium, downhill go-cart ride, a traipse, and a dolphin show amongst other things. We ate lunch on the island, which was disappointing because it was all over-priced American food. I had a large hamburger topped with everything possible, plus a cooked egg! I have never tried that before and it was pretty good. The only bad part is that I was full on greasy food and then I had to uncloth into my bathing suit. That is never fun.
I don't know what exactly to write about my time on Sentosa, except we had a lot of fun. We rented bikes for an hour to explore the island (it was about $5) and we lounged on the beach when we were not swimming. The view wasn't all that great, because there were cargo ships all along the coast, but since the water was the perfect tempature I couldn't complain. Plus I got to enjoy the company of someone who has since become a good friend. It made for a great day.
Every night there is a free laser show on the island, so of course we stayed for the performance. It reminded me of Epcot Center in Disney Land for some reason. I think it was the cheesy music. If I had children they would have loved it. Despite the cheesy factor, it was pretty good. I even took pictures.
Spending all day in the sun can be really exhausting so after the laser show we went back to the hostel and I crashed...I don't want to write too much about it, but I must say holiday romance is so much fun...Brit boy and I both knew that we were just enjoying our time together, but it was nice. Our time on Sentosa island was full of kisses and I will just keep it at that!

Once upon a time (1999) I visited Singapore, primarily for an academic conference but your narration brings back fond memories of my first trip abroad.
Sounds like this trip was a success on many levels for you. :) I'm so happy you really enjoyed yourself. And a trip to an island via cable cars, so high up? I quake in my seat just thinking of it! You're a braver woman than I am!
mridula- It has been hard to write about Singapore. It seemed so rushed, but I guess that is because I added a surprise trip in the middle! I loved it though and I look forward to a return trip!
HV- It was such a good summer for me. It has been a long time since I just let go and just had fun. I stopped worrying about what I want out of life and enjoyed the present situation. I really needed it...you know? But the cable cars were the least of my adventures. Trust me, after all the things I did in New Zealand, you would have been happy to join in me in a simple cable car ride!
ooooh...i love that you can take a cable car to the beach! awesome!!!
