Blackwater Park, WV

For my Christmas present Boulderin' Boyfriend planned a weekend getaway to Blackwater Falls, WV. They have small old cabins which were built in the early 1900s. In the summer people can hike throughout the park and see beautiful waterfalls. During the winter people travel here for cross country skiing. I have been wanting to try cross country skiing, so he decided this would be a good place to start. Plus it would be romantic to spend the time together. He also organized for me to get a Swedish massage from a resort. It was very nice too!

Usually there is snow on the ground, but there were unusually warm temperatures this past week so all the snow melted. So there was no cross country skiing for me. We did try a half day at the ski resort. I wanted to try snowboarding, but there were only two lifts open (it was lame) so I just went skiing while Boulderin' Boyfriend was snowboarding. I was reminded of something that I had not thought of for over nine years: I really don't like skiing that much. It is expensive and I don't like going so fast. I hate that I don't have control when I am going that fast. I think that is why I want to try cross country skiing. Maybe another time.

We decided to ditch the slopes and do something that we love more. Hiking. We headed back to Blackwater Falls to explore the trails, which were very muddy from the melted snow. It was fun to wander around until I got to enjoy my massage.

To say thank you for my wonderful present I was going to make dinner while he made a fire. Usually I make really good meals, but my new recipe Edamame beans and Chicken with a peanut sauce did not taste right. I think the peanut butter was bad (I grabbed my brother's jar....mine was running low) but Boulderin' Boyfriend thought it was the Sesame oil. I couldn't stomach it at all so we ended up eating salad instead. And Boulderin' Boyfriend could not get the fire started in a fireplace (he i.s great with a campfire). I suggested more newspaper and he didn't think it would work, but when I sat down to help after dinner it started. At least I am good for something!

Unfortunately I did not sleep well that night in the cabin. I could feel a cold coming on and I was congested the whole night. I tried to breath out of my mouth because I was just so tired and nothing helped. It was miserable. I'm still recovering. Instead of hiking to the top of Seneca Rocks we did a little bouldering on the local rocks. It was cold and I was tired so we went home a little early. At least Boulderin' Boyfriend was sympathetic! Overall I thought it was a great weekend and I loved all the time we had to talk.

One of the highlights of the weekend were the deer who greeted us at our cabin. I know we shouldn't have fed them, but obviously we were not the first so a few blueberries and chopped carrots and they were our best friends!
Boulderin' Boyfriend doesn't get his name for nothing! He climbed the chimney and traversed the house, found boulders, and climbed trees!

Sounds like a fabulous time, but I'm sorry about the food mishap and your poor health. At least you made the best of things, as I knew you would.

Skiing isn't for everyone. I believe if you're going to be outdoors, you should be able to look around and enjoy it, not zoom past it. :)

HV- It was a good time. If I can get the video of us feeding the deer, then I am going to post that too. I was just happy to have a weekend with my boyfriend...we needed it because the weeks have been busy.

Amy- do you ever have anything nice to say?
