Straying From the Flock

I just finished my first book about New Zealand. It was called Straying From The Flock, by Dr. Alexander Elder. He is a tourist that has always loved New Zealand. He decided to write a tour book and spent eight weeks there researching for the book. It was nice to read his book, because it came from the tourist perspective, but he also gave a lot of information about the history of the country. I would definitely recommend it to someone preparing to travel to New Zealand. Besides, it really has gotten me excited about my vacation.

On the down side, there were a few things I did not like about the book. He seems to be a wealthly man, so his experience will be different then mine. He wrote quite a bit about the homestay/farmstays that he stopped at. They all sound so nice that I checked out a few of the websites. Unfortunately they are a little too expensive for my budget at around $250 a night. There were times that I could tell he was a little too stuck on his way of doing things. If someone didn't make him happy it was their fault. I didn't really like that about his book. He also mentions the wine a lot and since I'm not a wine drinker, that did not appeal to me. Oh one more thing, he mentioned meeting a women and sleeping with her. Just imagining two older people having sex made me throw up in my mouth a little! I don't want to picture two older people together...sorry, I just don't!

Now I need to get to the library and find some books about Singapore.
